           My name is Igor Desner. I am a head of Vinnitsa region
   Jewish community (VRJC), Ukraine.

           Our region is one of the traditional jewish cites. It
   consists of such well-known towns as Zhmerinka, Berdichev,
   Khmelnitsky (Proskurov), Nemirov, Tulchin, Medzhibozh. There
   are some old relics and monuments of Jewish culture in our
   region.

           Approximately 14 thousands jews are members of our
   community. VRJC includes some organizations which strive for
   rebirth an Yiddishist culture in the Podolija. These are
   Yiddishist songs club, Jewish intelligence club, Jewish cul-
   ture association, others. We have Jewish TV program "ALAVAY".

           We stand in need of Yiddishist literature, plates and
   tapes, funds for the development of new Yiddishist cultural
   and research programs. We stand in need of the intercourse
   with the persons having identical ideas.

           We hope for your relief.

Dear Mr. Dickerson,

          I am very grateful to you for your answer a message from me.

          Our community functions are:

            - a supporting of old jews and sick jews;
            - creation and realization of educational programs;
            - rebirth of Yiddish language and culture;
            - preservation of Jewish relics of the past and monuments;
            - celebrations of the traditional Jewish holidays, etc.

          Now we are restoring the town sinagogue. Our community has
  8 Jewish schools, a lecture centre. We have some musical groups which
  perform an Yiddish music and dances.

          Podolija region was a place of genocide. More than 200 thousands
  thousands jews were killed by SS men during 1941-1943 years. There are
  terrible documents about it in Vinnitsa archives.

          There are tsadics graves and old Jewish cemetries on the territory
  of our region. We'd like to create the photoalbum "Old Jewish corners of
  Podolija".

          Our specific needs are the Jewish books and press (for example,
  "MOMENT", "JEWISH PEACE", others), music of Yiddish songs, plates and
  tapes with the records of Yiddish songs and music.

          Nobody has full Internet access in our region. That is why your
  message to the teachers of students your must send on my e-mail. Phaina
  Vinokurova can be interested for you in this case.
